Carl Froch has officially retired and Boxing Base congratulates him on a glittering careerBoxingBase.com is sad to hear Carl Froch, one of boxing’s best all-action fighters, has decided to hang up his gloves. But we also thank the tenacious warrior for producing some of the modern era’s most dramatic and entertaining spectacles.

Never in a dull fight, Froch was destined to become Britain’s next greatest Super Middleweight champion. Froch took the torch from Joe Calzaghe, and boy did he carry it far.

Froch is one of those rare fighters who didn’t mind pushing himself to limit against the sport’s best fighters. He’s a ‘throw-back fighter’ in every sense, and what made him special was his ability to always find a way to win.

Boxing needs a dozen more fighters like him. But as we know, they are rare.

Froch’s unbreakable spirit became undeniable in his American debut against Jermain Taylor. Froch, the heavy underdog, was knocked down early, and about to wind up on the wrong end of a lopsided decision going into the 12th. Not that it bothered Carl, the man known as ‘The Cobra’ – he blasted out Taylor with just seconds remaining.

Froch may not have avenged his defeat to Andre Ward, but he did defeat his one only other conqueror, Mikkel Kessler. These are the only two defeats on Froch’s record, which stands at 33 wins, 2 losses, no draws, and 24 knockouts.

And it’s one hardly plumped with filler. Froch’s impressive record speaks for itself, and includes wins over:

  • Jean Pascal (UD 12)
  • Jermain Taylor (TKO 12)
  • Andre Dirrell (SD 12)
  • Mikkel Kessler (UD 12)
  • Arthur Abraham (UD 12)
  • Glen Johnson (UD 12)
  • Lucian Bute (TKO 5)
  • & George Groves (TKO 8/TKO 9)

Froch will be remembered for his do-or-die, snarling style, granite chin, and ability to silence his doubters in big fights. He is no doubt one of the finest fighters to come out of the Great Britain, and could well find himself inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame someday.

Carl, thanks for the memories.
