Barthelemy vs DeMarco - Rances Barthelemy shuts out Antonio DeMarcoBarthelemy vs DeMarco wasn’t a competitive fight, but to be fair, this wasn’t due to gross matchmaking. DeMarco wasn’t considered a great fighter beforehand, but is a former champion who comes to fight. Last weekend at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, he was simply outclassed by a superior boxer in Rances Barthelemy.

If Barthelemy’s name was only known by hardcore boxing fans prior, it will now be remembered by anyone who caught the free Premier Boxing Champions card on CBS. Barthelemy (23-0, 13 KO) shutout DeMarco in their Junior Welterweight 10-rounder, and further demonstrated his dominance with a 4th round knockdown.

Had Barthelemy not been deducted a point in the 9th round for a low blow, he would have been the outright victor on the scorecards. Post fight, all three ringside judges handed in numbers of 99-89, which mirrored BoxingBase.com’s.

DeMarco (31-5-1, 23 KO), who now picks up his fifth defeat, is likely headed out of the sport, or at least to fringe contender level. As for the unbeaten Barthelemy, the man will likely be geared in the direction of some the division’s biggest names. Expect to see the Ranked Junior Welterweight in the ring with a top-tier 140-pounder before the year is out or in early 2016.

In the absorbing chief support, Sammy Vasquez also won a Unanimous Decision, outpointing Wale Omotoso with 98-92 scores thrice. Despite those numbers, this Welterweight clash was more competitive than they revealed (not that they were in any wrong inaccurate). Broner vs Porter, Ward vs Smith – eat your heart out.

That said, it was Vasquez who was the smarter operator, utilizing an effective offense. It was just unfortunate the fight contained a few head clashes that saw Vasquez coming off as the injured party. There was blood, and plenty of it.
