Thurman-Porter could be airing on Showtime in DecemberThurman-Porter in December 12th Showdown

A fan-friendly fight seems to be on the horizon, folks. According to ESPN, Welterweight stars Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter will be squaring off in a Las Vegas headliner on December 12th. The affair will be a PBC event, apparently to be aired via Showtime.

If all goes ahead as planned, the bout would see the unbeaten Thurman (26-0, 22 KO) put his WBA 147lb title on the line, and against his toughest test to date. Porter (26-1-1, 16 KO) is strong, tenacious, scrappy, and gave Kell Brook all he could handle last year before suffering his first defeat.

Thurman-Porter; now that’s a competitive Welterweight showdown which surely promises action.

Gennady Golovkin Stars in Apple Watch Trailer

And they say boxers aren’t ‘mainstream’ enough to do big endorsements…

Check out the Middleweight monster in his debut TV commercial after being picked up by none other than Apple. Way to start big, GGG!

Catch the undefeated fighter in action below:

Arthur Abraham Takes on Martin Murray on November 21st

WBO champ Arthur Abraham has more than proven his class as a fighter over the years, beating world class challengers along the way. His next defense, on November 21st, will be against Britain’s Martin Murray, a decent fighter who has come within touching distance of winning straps at Middleweight twice.

Against Felix Sturm and Sergio Martinez, Murray was arguably unlucky with the judges. And against Gennady Golovkin, he was quite simply beaten up. But how will Murray (32-2-1, 15 KO) perform in his fourth attempt to capture glory against veteran Abraham (43-4, 29 KO)?

Tony Thompson Will Face Malik Scott on October 30th

The scheduled 10-rounder will be a PBC headliner set to air on Bounce TV in Orlando, Florida. Is there anything to really get excited about here? Yes and no. We’ll start with the bad.

Thompson is pushing 44, and so this really will be his final campaign at capturing a world title, which he recently confirmed. Tony is still a capable fighter, but generally fails to get pulses rising these days. Scott, who is 10 years younger at 34, is still chasing his first world title, and though skilled, has underperformed against tough opposition, most obviously against Deontay Wilder after getting knocked out seconds into the 1st round.

The good? Not only is this a sort-of-interesting crossroads fight, it’s also a last chance saloon for Thompson (40-5, 27 KO) and Scott (37-2-1, 13 KO). Someone’s gotta’ win big! And, you know, we might just see a few fireworks. Actually, don’t quote me on that.

Guillermo Rigondeaux Could Be Stripped of WBO Title

Undefeated Junior Featherweight Guillermo Rigondeaux has been sent a ‘show cause’ letter from the WBO, wherein the sanctioning body asked why the champ should continue to be in possession of their accolade. Rigondeaux now has ten days to write back and state his reasons.

The reason the WBO got in touch is because the Cuban standout, who now resides in the US, hasn’t fought in 9 months. He has made just three title defences since outpointing Nonito Donaire in April 2013, with said challengers not considered to be in the mandatory column.

In fairness to Rigondeaux, without going into serious detail, he’s had a fair bit of promotional/managerial issues outside of the ring. Maybe he should start with that in his letter.

Whatever happens, the 35-year-old will still hold the WBA’s ‘Super’ title.

Shane Mosley Returns to Welterweight to Chase Dangerous Game

Mosley is either one of the most ambitious aging fighters in boxing, seriously needs the dough, or has some form of death wish. The former champ recently told World Boxing News he is moving back down to Welterweight to face men such as Juan Manuel Marquez and Ruslan Provodnikov.

“Juan Manuel Marquez, Ruslan Provodnikov and Chris Algieri, plus a couple more that said they’d get in the ring with me, but it’s kind of hard because Al Haymon has all the fighters and I think he wants to monopolize boxing to make things different,” Mosley said.

“We are looking to fight again in December. Algieri and Provodnikov have agreed, so we just have to get the deal finalized, so we’ll see. They are both likely it’s just who I’m going to pick first.”

This is one instance where most of us wouldn’t mind seeing promoter feuds stopping a fight from materializing. Seriously. If you’d like to see 44-year-old Mosley fight Ruslan Provodnikov, it’s probably time to put the bottle down.
