Charlo vs Campfort - Jermall Charlo defeats Wilky CampfortThe A-siders on PBC’s Charlo vs Campfort card all took care of business with little trouble in Dallas, Texas. Jermall Charlo (23-0, 18 KO) had absolutely no difficulties in defending his IBF Junior Middleweight title against Wilky Campfort (21-2, 12 KO). Wilky just wasn’t as ‘Silky’ as his alias would suggest, and was knocked down three times before the referee called off the mismatch in the 4th round.

Charlo, who put his superior boxing ability and combination punches to good use, dropped Campfort with a jab in the 2nd, an uppercut in the 3rd, followed by another in the 4th. After the final knockdown, Campfort complained of a serious eye injury, which quite rightly led to the referee ending the 10 count early.

On the undercard, uber-prospect Errol Spence (19-0, 16 KO) also took out his opponent Alejandro Barrera (28-3, 18 KO) in style. Despite eating a few rights and uppercuts in the opening rounds, Spence outclassed and bullied his foe from the outset of this IBF Welterweight Title Eliminator.

Spence worked behind the jab, and soon began ripping on Barrera with a savage head-body assault, finally dropping his overwhelmed foe in the 5th. Barrera bravely beat the count, but soon took a knee after another blistering attack. The referee, deciding he’d seen more than enough, showed his mercy.

Also on the card, Lightweight prospect Ryan Karl (11-0, 8 KO) took on Ken Alvarez in a rather messy 6-rounder. Karl knocked down Alvarez in the 1st courtesy of a left-hook, and from that point on the bout became a slugfest which favored the superior technique of Karl.

Despite stumbling around throughout, Alvarez (7-3-2, 3 KO) managed to remain in the fight and nail his foe with some decent shots. Which was admirable. He wrongly received a count after being pushed down in the 3rd, and after a right hand staggered him across the ring in the 5th, his corner threw in the towel. Alvarez could have likely made the bell, sure, but was never going to win this scrap.

Chime in with your own thoughts on the Charlo vs Campfort card, folks. The name Canelo Alvarez is being (irritatingly) overused right now, but I’ll ask the question anyway: how would Jermall Charlo fair against the 155 pound king?
