Martin vs Glazkov - Charles Martin & Vyachseslav Glazkov at weigh-inOn the Wilder vs Szpilka undercard at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn, Charles Martin emerged victorious against Vyacheslav Glazkov to pick up the vacant IBF Heavyweight title. The ending came in rather inconclusive, disappointing fashion, however, with Glazkov being defeated by a sickening knee injury instead of Martin’s fists. It’s unfortunate, but hey, it is what it is: Martin is now rubbing shoulders with champs Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

Glazkov’s knee appeared to ‘pop out’ – for lack of a better medical term – in the 3rd round during an exchange. Glazkov appeared to get clipped on the way down, but it soon became clear it was his undercarriage that was causing the real distress after he regained his feet. To Glazkov’s credit, the man bravely fought on, but then fell back to the canvas again after attempting to throw a straight to Martin’s body. Glazkov got back to his feet, hobbled over to the ropes, and had no choice but to produce the figurative white flag.

For what it’s worth, Martin did get the better of Glazkov in the first two rounds. Well, enough to lead with a 20-18 score. Martin was effective, taking advantage of his greater height and frame by peppering his man with a busy jab. Though more questions were created than answered in this encounter, I don’t think fight fans will be calling for Martin vs Glazkov II anytime soon. Martin now climbs up to 23 wins, 1 draw, 20 knockouts, while Glazkov drops to 21 wins, 1 defeat, 1 draw, 13 knockouts.
