This weekend's TV boxing schedule is packed full of fightsGolovkin-Lemieux isn’t the only fight worth catching this week. In fact, there’s plenty of boxing action taking place, most of which are stateside PBC cards. Here’s a quick rundown on what’s coming up.

October 14th TV Boxing Schedule

Alexander-Martinez

ESPN, Sky Sports 1

Devon Alexander really deserves to be in with better opposition than Aron Martinez. Or does he? The former Welterweight champ, who suffered a shutout decision loss to Amir Khan in his last outing, is hoping to regain momentum by upstaging Martinez.

Who is Martinez exactly? He’s that scrappy slugger who gave Robert Guerrero hell for 12 rounds back in June. So, you know, he can at least fight a bit. In what looks to be more interesting, Lee Selby will making the first defense of his IBF Featherweight title against former three-time champ Fernando Montiel.

October 16th TV Boxing Schedule

Fonfara-Cleverly

Spike, Sky Sports 1

I can’t quite make my mind up about the victor in this one. Andrzej Fonfara is having a very good year, especially after proving far too much of a beast for Julio Chavez Jr back in April. (FYI: the Polish Light Heavyweight was the first to retire Chavez.) But on the other hand, Cleverly is still a decent operator, despite a lot of people writing him off since being stopped by Sergey Kovalev back in 2013.

Fonfara is tall, rangy, strong, and can bang. But he’s no Kovalev. This one should be interesting, and is a great chance for Cleverly to thrust himself back into the mix. In the co-support, Kohei Kono and Koki Kameda will be trading punches in a Junior Bantamweight championship bout. This match-up, which will see Kono’s WBA title up for grabs, looks to be competitive.

All in all, this looks to be the weekend’s best card not named Golovkin-Lemieux (below).

Monaghan-George

truTV

Seanie Monaghan and Don George isn’t a bad headliner, to be fair. We’re not talking about outstanding fighters in this one, but these guys are at least evenly matched up. And that’s a lot better than seeing an elite fighter in with a dud, you could easily argue. Monaghan looks like the better of the two on paper, and has a strong following in New York, which should generate a big crowd attendance in Brooklyn.

Solomon has some skills, but is no longer considered a prospect, so will have no choice but to fight his socks off and make a statement in this one.

October 17th TV Boxing Schedule

Eggington-Evans

Sky Sports 1

It’s hard to get too excited about this one, especially since Sam Eggington is no longer fighting the originally billed Frankie Gavin. With Gavin pulling out of the fight, Eggington will now be taking on Dale Evans, who just looks to be a downright awful substitution. Is it me, or does it seem like a lot of fighters are pulling out of bouts, for one reason or another, in the latter part of 2015?

The card will feature a slightly better match-up between Kal Yafai and Jason Cunningham. Actually, don’t quote me on that.

Peterson-Diaz

NBC

Lamont Peterson and Felix Diaz will be doing battle in a 10 round Welterweight headliner in Washington D.C. Whether this bout will be competitive or not is hard to say. Yes, Diaz is a decent undefeated fighter, not to mention 2008 Gold Medal Olympian, but he’s also a tad on the short side for Peterson. After a few rounds, we’ll see just what Diaz is capable of bringing to the table.

In the co-support, things look a bit more tasty. Not only are Prichard Colon and Terrel Williams evenly matched in terms of height and reach, they are both unbeaten prospects. Colon in particular will be closely watched in this encounter.

Golovkin-Lemieux

HBO PPV, Boxnation

The big one. And certainly the biggest of the weekend. Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux will be starring in their first PPV event which, however competitive it is, looks to promise some serious fireworks. These guys have freakish power, so this headliner is being billed as the ultimate Middleweight puncher battle. Check out my Golovkin-Lemieux Tale of the Tape, Facts & Stats for more info.

Also featuring on the card is a tasty affair between pound for pound numero uno Roman Gonzalez and tough customer Brian Vilora. Gonzalez’s RING and WBC straps will be on the line.
