Terry Flanagan is looking to shock Diego Magdaleno in this weekend's Manchester headlinerTerry Flanagan Looking to Shock Diego Magdaleno

WBO champ Terry Flanagan may have won his first Lightweight title in less than satisfying fashion in July, but the Mancunian has put it all behind him.

“If he stays in the top 10 then it’s possible that we could meet again,” Flanagan told The Ring, speaking of Jose Zepeda who dislocated his shoulder in the 2nd round prior to the injury stoppage. “Providing I win my next fight, I’m due a voluntary defense and if Zepeda’s team offer the right kind of money then we could have a rematch.”

The unbeaten Flanagan (28-0, 11 KO) only has one man in his sights now, and that is this weekend’s mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno, an all-rounder southpaw hailing from Los Angeles. Magdaleno (28-1, 12 KO) is coming off a 7th round stoppage over Jose Gonzalez in June, and lost a questionable Split Decision to titlist Roman Martinez back in April 2013.

“I’ve seen Magdaleno and he’s a very good fighter,” Flanagan continued. “He can box or stand and trade, plus he’s very strong physically. He’s mandatory challenger with plenty of big-fight experience, but this is the first time he’ll have fought outside of America. Trust me, he’s in for a shock when he sees what he’s up against.”

Frankie Gavin Withdraws from Sam Eggington Showdown

Frankie Gavin vs Sam Eggington, billed for October 17th, was to be a Birmingham derby dustup between two local hometown rivals. But the Welterweight encounter has now been postponed after Gavin (22-2, 13 KO) withdrew following a foot injury.

“Sorry to say I have had to pull out my fight,” Frankie said via Twitter. “I got ran over two and a half weeks ago and had two weeks off training. I was thinking it would heal but it hasn’t so I have had to pull out.”

The bout would have been Gavin’s first since being pummelled by Kell Brook in May. Both Gavin and Eggington (16-2, 9 KO), another capable operator who has beaten the likes of Denton Vassell and Glenn Foot, were looking to move themselves into the world scene frame.

Gavin also mentioned November or December as possible future dates for the rescheduled clash.
