Jacobs vs Quillin boxing banner - Daniel Jacobs and Peter QuillinJacobs vs Quillin is one of those fights that seems to have popped up out of nowhere. Yes, we knew it was in the calendar, but with Cotto-Canelo and Klitschko-Fury recently saturating sports’ sections, it’s easy to see why it’s kind of fallen off the radar.

But with 2015’s biggest ‘super fights’ done and dusted, there’s no reason this doesn’t have the potential to be another one. If you were absorbed by the firepower in Golovkin-Lemieux, then you won’t want to miss Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin taking lumps out of one another on Saturday.

And for what it’s worth, it looks to be a whole lot more competitive than Golovkin-Lemieux. On paper, anyway.

While Quillin is a slight favorite – short of checking official odds – this is otherwise a well-matched encounter between two heavy-handed Middleweights. And there’s an endearing back story here to boot, with both fighters coming from wayward beginnings on the streets of Brooklyn, and Jacobs having defeated one of life’s most formidable opponents: cancer.

Naturally the fight, which will see Jacob’s WBA strap on the line, will be taking place at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn. I’ll be watching, and so should you. In a world where Canelo Alvarez refuses to fight anyone at 160 pounds (why, oh, why?), the winner of Quillin vs Jacobs is likely to be Golovkin’s next challenger. Nuf’ said.

Going in, Jacobs brings 30 wins, 1 defeat, 27 knockouts, while former champ Quillin carries 32 wins, no defeats, 1 draw, 23 knockouts. In terms of Rankings, Jacobs currently rides the No.4 spot in Boxing Base’s Middleweight Top 10, while Quillin nears the peak at No.7. Showtime will broadcast the event.

Give us your take on Jacobs vs Quillin in the comments, fight fans. Who are you picking to win this Middleweight showdown? And as you’re here, would the winner be prepared to step into the lion’s den with Gennady Golovkin in 2016?
