Vargas vs Salido is already a front-runner for Fight of the YearWith the dust now settled following last weekend’s magnificently dramatic Vargas vs Salido, it’s only right that we all sit back and relive the best moments of what is surely already a Fight of the Year contender. WBC Junior Lightweight champ Francisco Vargas had no choice but to go toe-to-toe with battle-born slugger Orlando Salido for twelve frantic rounds of action. No man was significantly rocked or knocked down by the countless bombs that were thrown, which is testament to the granite chins and toughness of both combatants.

Vargas had to settle for an uncontroversial Majority Draw at California’s StubHub Center, but left town with his title intact, plus a whole new legion of hardcore fans. Scorecards came in at a telling 113-115 and 114-114 twice, while here at BB we had it bang on 114-114. Salido, previously ranked No.4 here at BB, will now surely be bumped up a notch or two when our Top 10 Rankings are soon reviewed. Vargas, currently ranked No.1, could well find himself rubbing shoulders with his newest adversary.

Vargas remains unbeaten, now standing at 23 wins, 2 draws, 17 knockouts, while Salido’s record remains colorful with 43 wins, 13 defeats, 4 draws, 30 knockouts.

This clash of punchers, which has apparently broken CompuBox records thanks to its non-stop combination punching, has sent sizeable shockwaves throughout the sport. It was obviously a major win for all involved in this event, and most of all, the fans, which is a very good thing, indeed. Catch HBO’s Highlights below:
