If you didn’t catch Wilder vs Szpilka at the weekend, I’m afraid to say you missed a decent, surprisingly competitive Heavyweight scrap. Not a classic, but good considering the pre-fight script. Deontay Wilder landed a hellacious right hand to end matters in the 9th round, but it wasn’t all one way traffic. You catch Showtime’s footage of Wilder turning out Artur Szpilka’s lights above, but unfortunately not Szpilka’s bold effort.

Szpilka, who entered as another undersized, overmatched contender, did himself proud, showing the champ no respect from the first bell, and exhibited an impressive ring IQ, utilizing mobility and sharp, measured attacks. If you haven’t already, you can get up to speed by checking out Boxing Base’s Wilder vs Szpilka Full Fight Report.

So what about it? Is this set to be one of the most impressive front runners for Knockout of the Year in 2016? (And yes, I’m aware it’s only mid-January!)
