Kell Brook Looking Sharp for Kevin Bizier

Kell Brook has the drive to tackle some of the Welterweight division’s greatest players, but for one reason or another, politics and injuries certainly included, we’re yet to see him matched against the very best. For now we’ll have to settle for Kevin Bizier, Brook’s Saturday night opponent. Seconds Out cameras were in Brook’s hometown of Sheffield to catch the undefeated star’s open workout.

Andre & Anthony Dirrell Return April 29th

Brothers Andre and Anthony Dirrell will be back in action on April 29th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Andre (24-2, 16 KO), who suffered the second loss of his career against James DeGale last May, will be looking to return to winnings ways when he takes on Blake Caparello (22-1-1, 6 KO). Caparello shouldn’t be overlooked, but shouldn’t cause too much of a threat to the more naturally gifted Dirrell.

If you’re unfamiliar with Caparello, you may remember his claim to fame by dropping Sergey Kovalev at Light Heavyweight in 2014. Caparello was swiftly crushed a round later, ending his brief momentum of glorify, but it probably earned him some low-key hype. Dirrell vs Caparello is set for 10 rounds at Super Middleweight, and will act as the chief support to his sibling’s headliner.

Anthony (28-1-1, 22 KO) will be facing Caleb Truax, a one-time Middleweight challenger who was knocked out by WBA champ Danny Jacobs last April. Andre lost his WBC strap to Badou Jack on the same card, and bounced back in September with a 5-round drumming of Marco Antonio Rubio. Truax (26-2-2, 16 KO) is a solid contender who, like Caparello, probably shouldn’t be overlooked just yet, but seems like an easy enough night’s work for a superior operator like Anthony.

It’s hard to say whether Truax is actually moving up in weight here since his yo-yo record suggests he’s yet to settle at either 160 or 168 pounds. The bout is also set for 10 rounds at Super Middleweight.

MMA Gets Green Light in New York

If you’re a fan of mixed martial arts, you’re probably aware that the soaring combat sport has been on the banned list in New York for some time. Well that was yesterday. You’ll be thrilled to hear that MMA has been given the green light, and according to UFC CEO, Lorenzo Fertitta, the big apple is the number one state when it comes to UFC Pay Per View performance.

So it will come as no surprise that the organization is planning to stage their first major event at “Madison Square Garden”, according to Fertitta during a recent interview with The Ring. Is MSG about to become a mecca of MMA as well as boxing? Can I smell a Twitter feud igniting already…?

What’s your take on the preparation of Amir Khan, and have your expectations for his clash with Canelo Alvarez altered in any way? How do you see Kell Brook’s matchup with Kevin Bizier playing out this weekend, and finally, can Caleb Truax and Blake Caparello ask anything significant of the Dirrell brothers?
