Hughie Fury wins Unanimous Decision over durable George Arias on Blackwell vs Jones cardAnother busy weekend of boxing has just ended, and unlike Buglioni vs Castaneda, this Hennessy Sports card held some more competitive clashes for British talent. Let’s get stuck in…

Blackwell vs Jones

At the Derby Arena, England, Nick Blackwell (18-3-1, 8 KO) made his first defense of the British Middleweight title against Damon Jones (13-1, 3 KO). Blackwell had his work cut out against the tall and awkward southpaw, but found a perfect game-changer in the 6th round: a right-hook that dropped Jones, ultimately forcing the referee to wave off the contest.

Blackwell vs Jones Undercard

On the Hennessy Sports undercard, Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KO), cousin of Tyson, took on the experienced George Arias (56-13-0, 42 KO). A Unanimous Decision victory might seem unimpressive from Fury, but the result alone speaks little of Arias’ performance. The Brazilian proved to be incredibly durable, and despite losing by a score of 100-90, should be praised for taking Fury’s best shots en route to hearing the final bell.

Also, Lenny Daws won a scrappy Junior Welterweight bout with Mikheil Avakyan, and Tyson’s Fury lil’ bro Young Fury blasted out Ostaps Basins in the 1st round.
