Groves vs Jack: Summary

There you have it, fight fans! There’s a heck of a lot of stats to mull over there, and the numbers have only added to the anticipation. Here’s an overview of the key stats…

Groves would appear to be the slight favorite in terms of bout experience (23 – 21), age (27 – 31) and knockout ratio (70% – 57%). He’s also completed more rounds (131 – 106) and 12-rounders (3 – 1) – not that many people are expecting this fight to go the distance.

Though Groves hasn’t captured a world title, his two losses have come against Carl Froch. It’s worth noting Groves fought his socks off both times, even knocking down Froch in their first encounter. Those two bouts have no doubt given Groves a remarkable level of experience at world level.

On the subject of experience, Groves has arguably faced the tougher opposition. James DeGale, Kenny Anderson, Paul Smith and Glen Johnson are just some of them.

As for Jack, he’s no slouch either. His style may seem to the lack the explosiveness and athleticism of Groves, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the moves to beat him. On paper, Jack’s numbers suggest he represents an even match-up. If Jack chooses to box, his 1” reach (72” – 73”) gives him a minute – but notable – advantage, as does his height (6’ 1” – 5’ 11.5”).

Jack is also in possession of a world title; the WBC Super Middleweight variety which he captured from Anthony Dirrell in April. Dirrell is Jack’s biggest win to date, and shows he’s capable of competing at the top level.

Given both men’s records consist of less than 25 bouts, there are still many questions hanging over their heads. If our stats are anything to go by, however, we should all be in for a competitive dust-up this weekend.

Groves vs Jack will support Mayweather vs Berto on Showtime PPV, September 12th. UK fight fans can catch all the action on Boxnation.
