Joshua vs Whyte - Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte is set provided they win September boutsEddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing has now confirmed Joshua vs Whyte will take place on December 12th at the O2 Arena, London. The cement isn’t strictly dry as of yet, however; the prerequisite is that both men are victorious in their looming September 12th bouts.

Hearn recently Tweeted the following:

Eddie Hearn (@EddieHearn): For those asking re dates..if they both win on Sept 12..it’s @anthonyfjoshua v @DillianWhyte for the British & Commonwealth Dec 12 O2 Arena

It’s good news for boxing fans – especially Brits – and as for the ‘remain undefeated beforehand’ clause, it shouldn’t prove too much of an issue. With Joshua vs Whyte representing a dosh-making domestic barn-burner, Hearn simply wouldn’t allow for any spanners to interfere.

Hey, we could be wrong. Stranger things have happened…

Joshua’s September opponent Gary Cornish (21-0, 21 KO) may be unbeaten, but the scotsman is unlikely to upset the applecart. Whyte’s opponent is still unconfirmed, but if boxing has anything to do with business, you can bet it’s not going to be anyone too testing.

There’s much rivalry going into the December 12th clash, of course. Anthony Joshua is a 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, but has a loss to Whyte on his amateur record. That fight saw Whyte knock down Joshua twice en route to winning a points decision. Beef, indeed.

Joshua currently boasts a leg-trembling 13-0, 13 KO record following his 2nd round demolition job of Kevin Johnson, while Whyte is 15-0, 12 KO after taking out Irineu Costa in the 1st round.
