David Haye has plenty of British Heavyweight optionsThe results are in for Boxing Base’s latest poll: ‘Which British Heavyweight Should David Haye Face Next?’ Britain’s Heavyweight scene isn’t stacked with talent – mind you, what part of planet Earth is right now? – but there are enough good fighters in their prime capable of testing the Hayemaker. So who should Haye, after demolishing Mark de Mori in January, target next? (May 21st at the O2, London, is already inked in)

The final numbers tallied up as follows:

Dillian Whyte: 35%

Hughie Fury: 15%

Anthony Joshua: 13%

Tyson Fury: 12%

David Price: 11%

Gary Cornish: 9%

Dereck Chisora: 5%

There you have it. Dillian Whyte, the slick operator who took Anthony Joshua 7 rounds in December, drew in the most votes. Hughie Fury, who could be about to face Alexander Ustinov, came in second, followed by rising concussion king Anthony Joshua. Newly-crowned champ Tyson Fury wasn’t far behind, and fringe contenders David Price, Gary Cornish and Dereck Chisora filled the last three spots.

It’s great to see our readers’ have been realistic with their votes here. Cos’ naturally – considering boxing’s politics and frustrating mechanics – it’s highly unlikely Haye would be facing the top names of the poll, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Those are super fights – certainly on British shores – and likely won’t come to fruition until at least late 2016.

Whyte is a decent pick, I must say. The London-based fighter would probably suffer the second defeat of his career against Haye, but there’d be enough mystery in that fight to capture the public’s imagination. Whyte is young, strong, and has plenty of ring smarts.
