Lee-Saunders - Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders pose for camerasLee-Saunders Nudged to October

It was hotly contested and highly anticipated, but fight fans will now have to wait a little longer for Lee-Saunders. The September 19th bout, which was set to unfold in Limerick, Ireland, has been moved to October 10th at the Manchester Arena, Manchester.

Andy Lee, who will be defending his WBO Middleweight crown, had to postpone after contracting a virus. Frank Warren, who is co-promoting the event alongside Lee’s trainer/manager Adam Booth, confirmed the details with Boxing News.

“Adam contacted me and quite correctly let me know that Andy was ill,” Warren said. “Whilst they were prepared to gamble on him recovering in time, there is so much at stake for so many people, common sense had to prevail. We simply cannot risk this fight not happening and therefore the decision was made that we should postpone the fight to ensure it does.”

Warren also went on to explain the reasons behind the date and choice of venue:

“With October being such a busy month in the boxing calendar and every Saturday having a show, we could not afford to wait until November and risk going outdoors. The only viable option available to us was to move the fight to the Manchester Arena on the 10th October alongside Terry Flanagan’s defense of his WBO Lightweight title in a show that is shaping up to be one of the best cards in years.”

Mmm, interesting. Perhaps Lee-Saunders featuring alongside Terry Flanagan wouldn’t be such a bad thing? That would make for a world title doubleheader, and provided Flanagan’s opponent is no slouch, this would please fight fans. Certainly those on UK shores. And if Flanagan could fly over ol’ Jose Zepeda for a much-deserved rematch then – ah, we’re just dreaming now…

Marco Huck Craving ‘Bigger’ Obstacles

You’ve got to hand it to Marco Huck. Not only is he about to break the record for most successful Cruiserweight defenses (14), he has also stated ambitions to campaign at Heavyweight. And to boot, the 6′ 2″ fighter has his eyes on 6′ 7″ undefeated champ Deontay Wilder.

Yes, if the 30-year-old Huck can get past Krzysztof Glowacki on August 14th, he has plans to return to the sport’s glamour division. A weight that saw Huck lose a Majority Decision to then-WBA champ Alexander Povetkin. Ambitious, indeed.

“When I eventually go back up to heavyweight I want to fight the top guys right away. Maybe I’ll go fight Deontay Wilder, that is definitely an interesting option,” he told Boxing News.

But first thing’s first. Huck isn’t about to overlook his scheduled undefeated challenger, Glowacki.

“All our focus is on Friday night and our victory,” he assured. “I don’t really concern myself with my opponents. My only worry is if he is a southpaw or orthodox. A lot of people say they’re in they’re in the best shape of their lives, but they all come crashing down.”

What’s your take on Marco Huck returning to Heavyweight? An inevitable ill-fated campaign? And would Wilder ever consider having Huck as a dance partner?
