Stevenson vs Karpency is official - Adonis Stevenson will take on Tommy KarpencyStevenson vs Karpency has left the rumor mill and is now officially on. Not that the PBC on Spike championship bout, set to take place on September 11th, is going to raise many pulses. Well, perhaps a few in Adonis Stevenson’s homeland of Canada.

The WBC and RING Light Heavyweight champ has made five successful title defenses against mostly non-threatening opposition, and Tommy Karpency isn’t about to break that pattern. Stevenson has been carefully matched so far, to say the least, clocking up wins over Tavoris Cloud (RTD 8), Tony Bellew (TKO 6), Fonfara (UD 12), Dmitry Sukhotsky (KO 5), and Sakio Bika (UD 12).

Stevenson became champ in 2013 by blasting out Chad Dawson inside the 1st round. It was a career-defining fight that derailed the career of Dawson and sky-rocketed his conqueror’s.

Karpency (25-4-1, 14 KO) shares some common foes on his record, but the way he fared against them speaks volumes of his chances come September. Karpency may have beat a declining Dawson (SD 10) in October 2014, but he lost via Unanimous Decision to Bellew and Fonfara in 2012.

The only advantage Karpency seems to have going into this fight is his age. The Pennsylvanian’s 29 years of age certainly stands out against Stevenson’s 37. It’s a significant fact, sure. But it shouldn’t be an issue in this fight. Stevenson (26-1, 21 KO) hasn’t shown any sings of slowing in recent fights, and still possesses some of the fight game’s most sublime footwork and technique. Not to mention one of boxing’s most devastating hitters (our #10 Hardest Hitter).
